The Hair and Barber's Market presents: The Cut, A Day of Inspirational Cutting featuring Best of The Best of British and Scottish Hairdressing - Colin McAndrew and Peter Mellon of Medusa Salon Edinburgh.
COLIN (Salon Director)
Colin is the CEO of medusa salons, and cuts hair at Bread Street for his regular clients. However, the bulk of his time is now spent in education, helping to develop skills and confidence in stylists in medusa, as well as via numerous industry training programmes, and also for charity (Colin is a Wella Brand Ambassador for Unicef).
Although an experienced educator, Colin is continually on the lookout for new ways to develop further, seeking new sources of inspiration and refining and honing his skills, and this commitment to the craft is reflected in the string of awards he’s received over the years (most recently as a finalist in the prestigious 2016 British Hairdressing Awards).
“The more I cut hair, and the more I teach, the more I realise that striving for perfection in the fundamentals, is what most helps to creates timeless, beautiful hairstyles, as well as the basis for award-winning creations. All too often, I’ve seen emerging stylists try to do too much, too soon - with results that last as long as the walk to the salon exit. That doesn’t happen at Medusa”.
PETER (UK Creative Director)
Peter's been working at medusa for three years, after deciding he wanted to push himself more within the hairdressing industry (in which he's been working for over seven years). After only one year at medusa, he successfully auditioned for the Wella generation now styling team, and then spent much of the following year touring the UK at various events and shows. In both 2015 and 2016, he made it through to the Wella trendvision UK finals and was placed in the top 5 in 2016 - a fantastic achievement given the intense competition from across the UK. One of Peter's new Submerged collection of hairstyles was recently featured on the front cover of Top Hair International (basically, hair-porn for stylists), and he has a lot of experience in photo shoots and stage work.
He's achieved incredible success for his creative styling and cutting, but also loves classic cutting and creating the perfect set of highlights for each person. He attributes this success to his absolute focus on continually learning, practicing and analysing hair styles in order to improve his abilities at each step.
